KITTY JAY
This follows on from "Trodden Ways", a song lyric based on a poignant - and sadly true - Dartmoor story.

I am a farmhand, stubborn and strong,
Working upon the Moor;
Many's the day I saw Kitty Jay -
The poorest girl of the poor.
Never I guessed at her cold, cold end
And the finish of all her hope.
White was her face in that terrible place
As she swung from that rope.

In unhallowed slumber lies Kitty Jay
After a life so sour.
Sorry her days and sorry her ways -
But noble is the unknown flower,
Noble is the unknown flower
